2014

Ombak!: Tales from Above and Beneath the Waves

Ombak! was the 2nd children’s music theatre project by Rhythm in Bronze aimed at bringing creativity and passion to children. It explores stories that revolve around the Earth’s most dominant feature – a vast body of water that has been a source of life for generations. The young performers made up a strong cast that told the story and played the gamelan throughout the whole show

Ombak! won awards at the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards in 2014 for Best Music Director, Best Original  Composition and Best Set Designer. The production also received nominations for Best Performance by Ensemble, Best Direction, Best Costume and Make-up, Best Sound and Best Lighting

2012

Bites of Delights: Twirly Whirly Tales from the Spice Trail

Bites of Delights: Twirly Whirly Tales from the Spice Trail was Rhythm in Bronze’s first children’s music theatre performance held in November 2012, sponsored by the Maybank Foundation, under the patronage of Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir. It received 6 nominations and won Best Group Performance and Best Music & Sound Design (Lorna Henderson) in the Theatre category at the 2013 BOH Cameronian Awards.

 

The project took the group in a new direction, reaching out to the young via a full-scale gamelan theatre project.

2008

Women's Aid Organisation (WAO) Project

A music therapy project using gamelan and other percussive instruments for the women and children of WAO who are victims of domestic violence.

The 3-month program aimed to provide an outlet and opportunity for the WAO ladies, their children and the shelters' care-givers to channel their feelings through music while allowing them to use music as a healing property.

2006

Selayang Kids Project 2

The 2nd Selayang Kids Project introduced the children to ways of creating a creative performance using storytelling and music, with gamelan as a base

This 3-month program ended with the kids performing for their family and community. Sponsored by the HSBC in the Arts programme.

2004

 Selayang Kids Project 1

The Selayang Kids Project I was the first “Rhythm in Bronze in the Community” programme launched for less privileged children to share the joy of performing and music appreciation via the gamelan. This 3-month program was sponsored by the HSBC in the Arts programme.
